I've been so apprehensive to watch this because of the discourse surrounding this movie. I think with adaptions there is always a level of discourse to be 100% accurate to a story, and I feel like with a tale as triumphant as The Odyssey it was inevitable to happen.

I truly admired your take on the film and gave a different dialogue to the response I've seen online. I miss the era of film where we had to lean in and figure out what the film was about instead of it being spoon fed to us. Do you think this is the direction film is starting to go in? And this might be a very far reach, but do you think this is the film equivalent of the literary crisis we are seeing? I feel like films are being made to adapt to viewers watching while on their phones

I absolutely do think this is the way all media is going, and that the literary crisis is deeply entertained with it. There have been studies about Netflix shows in particular that deliberately repeat phrases over and over to compensate for people being on their phones. I also believe that storytelling has fallen by the wayside in place of technical expertise. Films look beautiful and groundbreaking but have no substance.

This seems balanced and thoughtful, esp given the inane online outrage about certain facets of the movie. I'm not a Nolan-stan so where a lot of people might perceive depth and cerbral insightfulness in his movies, I often see pretentiousness. That said, I've enjoyed a few of his films. I might wait a while on this one but will probably end up seeing it at some point.
